This is an interesting development in a long process of "will they or won't they?" Wal-Mart has dropped this application due to delays and "manufactured controversy"...I'd really like to know who manufactured this controversy (probably The Media and The Public).

Wal-Mart has drawn fire over its repeated efforts to enter the banking business, a push that has drawn fierce opposition from the banking industry, some members of Congress and activist groups. The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer had a pending application to establish an industrial-loan company in Utah but has promised publicly that it won't open retail bank branches.
