NO GAS... On May 15th 2007
On May 15th 2007, all Americans are asked to refrain from making any Gasoline purchases in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now well over $3.00 a gallon in many places, and it's predicted that by this months end it will be at an all-time high... over $4.00

This is an Urban Legend that pops up every year for at least the past 4 summers. I wish I could find it, but there was a great article by an economist that showed that a protest -even of this size- would have no affect on gas prices.
Working with auto manufacturers to encourage them to design more fuel efficient automobiles or cutting back on consumption would do better from an environmental standpoint then trying to adjust the economics of supply and demand.

For those of you who are serious.....
Do not drive for any two days of your choice during the week of May 15th, which includes car-pooling and mass transit. Then, take steps to continue that practice every week after that. Imagine what would happen to fuel demand (and prices) if half the commuters in the United States reduced consumption by 40%? Let's find out next week.
And for the rest of you.....
If you commute in a vehicle that gets less that 30 mpg your whining should cease now. You have the inalienable right to stupidity, and we ask that you exercise your rights quietly. Feeling 28-percent-ish??
