No Wii For You!

It seems the game stores of the world may have underestimated the power of Nintendo's Wii. Jorge, one of my workmates, spent a good deal of his morning, up to and including his lunch hour, unsuccessfully trying to pre-order the upcoming console.

Today was the first day the EBGames / Gamestop monolith has taken pre-orders and it would seem they've reached their limited allocations very quickly. After calling several stores and walking into another one, Jorge is waiting for online pre-orders.

Nintendo is claiming they're shipping a serious number of Wiis stateside for launch so, if their numbers hold true, there's a good bet there will be Wiis there for the taking. Still, Nintendo must be pleased the response to their upgraded GameCube

I'm not completely sold on the control scheme - although I appreciate the new direction they're trying to take with it - so I won't be on the pre-order bandwagon. That being said, I'm excited for the launch. I can't wait to see people playing the Wii live and seeing the impressions. I'll let Jorge try the Wii first... if he can find one.
