A satellite of the
US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has detected
an increase in the number of hot spots in West Kalimantan province,
namely from 24 on Saturday to 57 on Sunday, a local environment
official said.
Head of the West Kalimantan provincial environmental impact control
agency Tri Budiarto said here on Monday that his office was still
tracing the sources and locations of the hot spots.
"However, there are indications that the hot spots are coming from
plantations in the border area (between Indonesia and Malaysia). And
some others are from burn-and-slash farming areas," Tri Budiarto said.
