The Fans Memorial for George Best - Old Traffod Football Ground

Following the death of George Best on Friday the 25th November 2005, 1000's of fans came and placed flowers, shirts, hats and scarves at the fans memorial at Old Trafford football ground. The ground was covered was a carpet of football shirts from different clubs, although the main colour which could be seen was the Manchester United red.

The volume of artifacts left to honour George Best was immense by Sunday morning, there was literally thousands of statements of condolance to George amongst the items left. From the very old to the very young were brought to see the specticle of George Best remembered. The location of the Fans Memorial was facing the front entrance to the Old Trafford ground on a broad section of footpath. The volume of items left was leaving very little space for pedestrians. Many were trying to remember the footballer and not the lifestyle that the celebrity status brought the player.
