I like this guy's style: while on holiday in Las vegas, a guy conned his way onto the set of the megabudget action flick Iron Man. Now he can look people in the eye and say, "Yeah, I had a scene with Gwyneth Paltrow".

Carl Kelly, 29, of Knebworth, Hertfordshire, told security that he had lefthis pass inside the set and was believed “because I had a British accent”.He sat down with the other extras and, several hours later, was called to doa scene with Ms Paltrow.

He said yesterday: “Some 38 takes later, I think they were getting pretty fedup with me — but that’s what happens when you let an untrained nobody intoyour film.”

The salesman, who had been staying at Caesars Palace after watching the boxerRicky Hatton take part in a world title fight last June, now appears in thebackground of promotional images for the science fiction thriller Iron Man.

By the time the shoot had finished, Mr Kelly had missed his plane home. “I hadto shell out for a new flight but after blagging my way on set I felt Icouldn’t do a runner as they would have to start from the beginning.”

I wonder if he was able to step up his game and dine from the castcatering, rather than the extras/crew tables... The last shoot I didthat involved extras, they even had to pay for their own street parkingwhilst we got slots in a lot, and the craft services situation wassimilar.

Still, though, "extra" is definitely a step up from "spectator" in the entertainment-industry hierarchy.
