100 million smoke beedi in India, says report

An estimated 100 million people - mostly the poor and illiterate -smoke beedi in India and 200,000 tuberculosis deaths are due to thesehand-rolled cigarettes, a health ministry report released on Mondaysaid.
The report, for the year 2004-05 and termed as the firstanalytical, scientific and systematic study on the trend, said beedismoking was more harmful than cigarette smoking.

Hi wunder, I like this story.
Having never been to India, I never knew how widespread the smoking of beedi is.
I think Jarrett makes a good point though. The original story is from
