THE county council's chief executive Peter Gould today announced his retirement.

Liam said; Peter is a master of communication, and has helped make Northamptonshire County Council a more integrated body. This is clear when we look at Policing, Schools, and perhaps most notably Roads Repairs and County Council Customer Service. I wish you every success in your new position, and hope we have the good fortune of working together in the future.

Council leader Jim Harker said: "I am disappointed Peter is leaving. He joined the council in September 2000 following a critical review of the council. He has built an excellent team and with them transformed the organisation.
