About Miss New Mexico 2008 Joan Marie
Hi...My name is Joan Marie and I am the current "Miss New Mexico 2008'.
While my year is just beginning...thesepast few months have been amazing and certainly proving to be a very exciting time in my life. I am very proud and honored to be representing such a wonderful state...it truly is the "Land of
New Mexico is rich and diverse in heritage and culture...and I am proud to be not only Native American (Navajo), but Spanish and Irish too. I have been blessed with such an amazing family, who have supported and encouraged me...in all of my endeavors.
Currently, I am a third year student, studying both Political Science and Communication...and continuing my modeling/acting career of 14 years. I've been fortunate enough to perform on stage, in several musical theater productions; a commercial for the New Mexico State Lottery and featured in the televised series 'Wildfire' for the first 4 seasons. I have also been a part of several movies that were filmed right here in New Mexico; 'Wildhogs', 'Fan Boys', 'The Flock', 'Rent' and 'Donor Conspiracy'.
For the past few years, I've held many titles...and each one has provided me the opportunity to appear on behalf of prominent civic and charitable causes around the state. I've become an advocate for social and political issues that touch everyone's lives. I strongly believe that service in ones community is a means to show commitment as well as a way to gain depth of character.
With over 500 appearances made during my reign as 'Miss Rio Rancho, 2007', I have had the opportunity to entertain, inspire and touch the hearts of hundreds of thousands of New Mexicans. I've become an ambassador and public relations representative of our beautiful state, New Mexico.
During my year as 'Miss New Mexico Galaxy, 2008', I hope to accomplish wonderful goals and continue my work with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Children's Miracle Network, MADD, United Blood Services, CASA, Special Olympics, ASPCA, Boys & Girls Club, PrimeTime for the Kids, Literacy, Native American Education and various other programs that I am proud to be a part of. I will continue to serve as an Ambassador for the cities of Rio Rancho & Albuquerque, where I will continue to have several opportunities to represent both cities at various community and government functions.
It is my wish to continue traveling throughout the state, visiting and participating in various activities and to help with both civic and charitable functions. Using my name and title, to help with fundraiser's and to bring awareness to those organizations that request my presence. I'm happy to speak to local groups, businesses, special events and schools...inspiring young people to achieve their dreams.
