About Jason Means
Jason Means grew up on the Middle Ridge of Davis Creek, just south of Charleston, West Virginia. On any free
moment of a given day, you can almost bet that he’ll be somewhere outside, spending time behind the lens of his
camera and enjoying life.
Outdoor activity has continually fueled most of his life. During his time at South Charleston High School (1995
Graduate) Jason joined the Outdoor Explorers Club (ran by Glenn Toler and A.J. Fields) which introduced him to many
forms of outdoor recreation; such as climbing, hiking, flat water kayaking, camping and spelunking. His brother, Steve,
introduced him to the sport of cycling at an early age, and has since spent many years racing and riding, as well as
serving as manager and mechanic for several bike shops and teams. Although Jason has raced both mountain and
road, the discipline of cyclocross still intrigues him the most.
Jason has also spent several summers (1994-96) working on staff for the National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) as a
photographer and mountain bike coordinator. Connections within the NYSF introduced him to Cheat Mountain Club
lodge, were he served as general manager and outfitter for three years. During his time in the beautiful mountains of
the Monongahela National Forest, he picked up the sport of fly fishing, which has since grown into a passion.
Spending time outdoors has always empowered Jason and given him strength, providing his life with a richness of the
highest value. Travel and the next great adventure are never far from his thoughts and dreams.
Photography is also a key part of his life, and has been very influential in furthering his skills as an artisan. Jason has
had several images published in a variety of local publications. His eye as a photographer constantly bleeds over into
other aspects of his life, making him slightly more observant to light, form and function.
In more recent years, Jason has continued to refine his wood working skills, specializing in hand-hewn, tenon cut
furniture.
In July of 2006, Jason joined the West Virginia Army National Guard (WVARNG), were he currently serves as the
armorer and unit supply clerk for the 151st HHD Military Police Battalion, located in Dunbar, WV.
As of February 2007, Jason has joined the ScooterBob Eurobike team and quickly became proficient in the trade as a
motorcycle mechanic and salesman. His enthusiasm and energy are very contagious. His primary mode of transport
to and from work is his trusty 50cc Yamaha Zuma, which has a very distinctive appearance and rude 2-stroke growl.
