Amid rising public concern about plans for a $6.2 billion nuclear power plant planned for northern Alberta,  Premier Ed Stelmach said yesterday that it has not yet been decided whether or not his government will support the project.

"You
don't build nuclear reactors over an evening, these are important
decisions . . . beyond one person and we'll structure soon the kind of
public discussion that will occur in the province of Alberta.

"This
is a very important decision that the next generation and generation
after that will live with . . . that's why all Albertans should have
the opportunity for input."

We have no doubt that Stelmach will do the PC (politically correct) thing and initiate an extensive, expensive program of public input regarding the issue.  But here's the catch.  So far, in his reign of power, public input has meant, if you will excuse the term, diddily squat.  There are very strong powers in the province determined to go through with this development, and past history in this province has been that making a buck generally trumps environmental concerns.
