It's more or less accepted that New York City is the cultural capital of the United States, but the fact that this list of the Top 100 Tastemakers included more than thirty New Yorkers was surprising even to me. When you see who they are, though, it isn't maybe as surprising as you'd think; kudos to Forbes for being so on the ball as to include TV on the Radio--this decade's best band (in my humble opinion) and proud (like myself) Brooklynites.

Brooklyn winners include music group TV On The Radio, Brooklyn Brewery brewmaster Garrett Oliver and industrial designers Tobias Wong and Jason Miller. "It's flattering. It's nice to be thought of in that way," said Miller, 37, who formerly worked with fellow honoree and New York artist Jeff Koons.

Despite Hollywood's domination of the film industry, locals Spike Lee and Martin Scorsese made the cut, as did Michigan transplant Michael Moore.
