THE veil controversy in Britain, the ongoing violence in French ghettos and the immigration fiasco in the United States share a common denominator: the bankruptcy of "accommodation."
For decades, "assimilation" was a fundamental expectation: immigrants adapted to their new country. Accommodation is exactly the opposite: immigrants, a k a guests, are encouraged to "celebrate their differences" - and the host country is expected to adjust.
In reality, accommodation is a lack of self-respect. It is the idea that the traditions, culture and language of a host country are "no better or worse" than the immigrant's former country and needn't be adopted.
That's a lie - exposed by the massive flow of human traffic into Europe and the United States, and out of countries that do not share our values.
