This was just one response by New Orleans local citizens at the Rex Parade Mardi Gras 2006. There was a lot more. They all seemed to resent the remarks by the mayor.
Locals desperately needed the relief of Mardi Gras for the good time, to share their experiences and to restore a feeling of community. They all knew that the next day it was back to the total mess of trying to clean up this major disaster. There were many costumes and floats using the notorious blue tarps issued by FEMA, and the white ovealls for gutting and removing the toxic remains inside houses.
The whole day was like a huge street-long party. I have never seen anything like it. It was the absolute best Mardi Gras parade I had ever gone to.
