Just imaging an America that lost the war of independence, an America with the Union Jack on its flag and a completely different national anthem, there would not have been state related problems. As America would be a set of territories not unlike Australia and Canada. The capital and government would have properly been located in New York. The national sports being English football and cricket, America with a completely new profile not a superpower but a very credible nation.

The civil war would have never happen with slavery being phased out much earlier in history. I expect the Red Indian problem would have been not so much of a problem and that there would still of been the terrible cull, but not as bad, the Indians retaining much more land than they do today.

The Wild West, not being so wild, as it was, due to better law control and better gun control. A balance of sheep and cattle ranches, with more tea than coffee being drunk. The law being the same everywhere in each and every territory, policed by policemen and not marshals, sheriffs and deputies with different ideas of how the law should be up held.

This America would have grown within the British Empire into a mirror of Great Britain this meaning a nation with better gun control, with the police having no need of carrying guns on the streets. Citizens being care for throughout their lives.

The benefits to Europe would have been that the World War I and II would have been over a lot quicker due to America being involved at the on start. Russia would have not took control of it’s surrounding neighbors as the Germans would of not advanced very far as the did. The Second World War would have over in next to no time. It doubtful if there would have been a cold war and Japan advance in Asia would have been a British problem to solve, its my bet they would never dropped the atomic bomb to end the conflict. The Japanese war would have been a separate entity to the one in Europe of which would have been over a long time before. This meaning the power of the British empire would of properly nip things in the bud.

Wars such as Vietnam and Korea simply would have not happen in the way they did, properly they would never been part of history. Also the present wars in Iraq and Afghanistan would never happen due to the fact that 9/11 would not have happen either as America’s meddling in a Cold War would not have been a historic event.

I therefore blame the rebels, greedy businessmen and the founding fathers for all the woes that America has placed on the world within the 21st Century, hopefully America will mend its ways in this 22nd century. But so far it does not look good.

It's worth pointing out that all of Britain's colonies have severed colonial ties at one time or another and went on to forge their own destinies: even Australia recognizes the Queen only as a matter of procedure. There's no reason to assume that the US would have somehow remained a satellite of the UK had the Revolutionary War not broken out at the time it did.

I would expect that all the colonies including America would have been handed back. The base of the article was what if situation of course there are many other paths, I thought the path illustrated here would be interesting one, certainly world events would have been different. American Independance had a great influence on the modern world, it shaped capitalism and created vast corperate control that has caused or fed many of the worlds problems. I am not blaming americans but the greed of the corperations especially international ones that include the oil companies.

Hello guys,

You're right Jordan, even Australia though it has the Queen as a figurehead only, wants to succeed from the monarchy of England.  There is more and more dissent rising because of details such as:

Queen on monetary notes and coins;

Union Jack appearing on the flag;

Even now, the Australian National Anthem is no longer "G-d Save the Queen" but "Advance Australia Fair" and has been for years.  New Zealand is far more connected to the Queen than Australia is, because they choose to be.

I found when I lived there for a year, that they consider themselves to be 'little England' and import many of their foods and other goods from England instead of buying far cheaper alternatives from Australia.

What an injustice to their people!

In the near future I will be visiting both Autralia and Newzealand just for the Fish and Chips, lol. Even if the both change their flag they will still be tied to their english heritage as this is just a Royalty thing. Many of my friends here in Cebu, Philippines are from both countries I have heard their views and it is definatly not a anti-english one. If you visit here the Kiwi Lodge Cebu City has the best Fish and Chips, the one thing that stops me getting home sick for blighty.
