Medinat Yisrael a Jewish problem – part one

The Roman’s are the ones that caused many of the problems we are seeing to day, the built a very powerful empire their method of training a well disciplined army and inventing new battle ground tactics made them one of the powerful nations the world had ever seen. Their actions caused the problem of both Jews and Palestinians laying claim for the same land.

1. Whilst the Romans ruled Israel many Jews fled and made new homes in Europe, due to the harshness of Roman rule.

2. When the Roman Empire converted to Christianity they changed the aspects of the original Christian Religions to be not so different from the original religious beliefs of Rome. Of course it could not be said the Roman’s killed the main hero Jesus Christ so they made sure the Jews would be blamed.

The Gospel of Mathew contained nice pieces of Roman propaganda such as:

Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

The Holy Roman Empire did not collapse completely its religion has expanded across the globe, The Roman Catholic church still indoctrinates and controls the lives of millions of people. This form of Roman Christianity has since splintered into many other Christian faiths. But many followers believe the Jews killed their savior. This has led to a horrifying hatred for the Jews.   
    
Ever since Rome accusations the Jewish people have been persecuted, by Christians through out Europe.  That then led to the Germans final solution the awful Holocaust, and the need for Jews to flee from German persecution. of which put most of the flames of European hatred out at the end of World War 11. 

World War II caused fleeing Jews that could not find homes elsewhere to head back to their ancient homeland "Eretz Yisrael (the land of Israel, called "Palestine" by the Romans and Greeks).

The national movement for the return of the Jewish people to their homeland and the resumption of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel, advocated, from its inception, tangible as well as spiritual aims. Jews of all persuasions, left and right, religious and secular, joined to form the Zionist movement and worked together toward these goals. Disagreements led to rifts, but ultimately, the common goal of a Jewish state in its ancient homeland was attained. The term "Zionism" was coined in 1890 by Nathan Birnbaum. Israel is thought to be the ‘Promised Land’ and that promise from God to Moses at the time of the Jewish exodus from Egypt approximately around about the year 1400 BC. This story can be found within in the Torah and the Old Testaments of the Christian Bible. The Passover meal traditionally ends with the words "Next Year in Jerusalem".

Austrian journalist Theodor Herzl in the late nineteenth century, establish the Zionist movement of which had formed much earlier but with no organization or administration. The formation of the group was caused by the effects of anti-Semitism in Europe. After the Holocaust Zionism became the dominant Jewish political movement.

Medinat Yisrael (Palestine) prior to the sudden influx of the European Jewish immigrants already had a population that included Jewish and Muslims that lived in harmony together, there was actual many friendships between Jews and Muslims.  Of course this sudden influx of European Jews most of whom supported the Zionist movement caused big concerns from the followers of Islam and those within the Arab world as they also lay claims to land of Palestine, Jerusalem being regarded as one of the Islamic holy cities. This has caused the Islamic hatred we are seeing today within the Middle East. The problems related to the Islamic Palestine’s will be related in part three of ‘Medinat Yisrael a Jewish problem’.

The Zionist after the declaration of the State of Israel, worked hard in creating deserts into an agriculture dream and a manufacturing base that attracted US corporate interest and Jewish American cooperation. Today’s US cooperation can be seen on this site

My opinion.

The aggressive actions of Zionism has fuelled hatred for the Jews within the Middle East, this has been caused by the influx of European Jews who lay claim to a land they had not stepped foot in for centuries. American corporate investment in the original dynamic growth of Israel has seen the formation of American-Israel business and many of these have very no links with American Jews. The Islamic World blames USA due to this corporate influence for supporting Israel. Where as the corporate have been doing good business and the US government has effectively been protecting US interest in Israel.

Note: In the last thirteen centuries Palestine has changed hands fourteen times and has at no time been an independent country. No national claim to it was made by any group within it from the First to the Twentieth century

The ball started to roll.

In 1917 British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour sent an official letter to Lord Rothschild, its contents stated:
"His Majesty’s Government views with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."
This being the results of a three years of lobbying the British Parliament by the Zionist Movement, their first success since the official foundation of the Movement in 1897. The Balfour declaration however stated only a national home for Jews and not a Jewish State. Palestine at the time was under British rule as a British protectorate. At the time the declaration was acceptable by the various political authorities, excluding the Arabs. A very important decoration was made by Pope Benedict XV stated that "Jews and Catholics would be good neighbors in Palestine."
Later in 1920 the Balfour principles where incorporated in the Palestine Mandate Agreement between Great Britain and the League of Nations in 1920 (San Remo Conference of the Allies). The same year it was incorporated into the treaty of peace of the Allies and Turkey (Sevres).
In 1922 the mandate for Palestine was passed. The historic connection of Palestine and the Jews where recognized. From that point Jewish immigration into Palestine was encouraged.
In 1922 a British White Paper, penned by Winston Churchill declared explicitly that "the whole of Palestine west of the Jordan was excluded from Sir Arthur Henry McMahon’s pledge to Hussein about Arab independents"  The Sykes-Picot Agreement provided for a Arab confederation under the joint protection of France and Great Britain. Palestine internationalized and Jews given political, religious civil equality only.
The misunderstanding of relative apportioning of Palestine territory and independence gave the impression that the Israelis got the best deal. Conflicting promises where made to both sides Britain was in fact playing both sides. It was in these critical postwar years after World War 1, in the early nineteen twenties, where when the seeds of the Israeli-Arab conflict were sown.
During and after World War II, Jewish Immigrants flooded into Palestine, the Zionist movement had been given the keys to power. 
On May 14, 1948 the new State of Israel declared its independence and among other things stated Israel said that it would
"uphold the full social and political equality of all its citizens without distinction of religion, race, or sex; will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, education, and culture; will safeguard the holy places of all religions; and will loyally uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter. . . . In the midst of wanton aggression, we yet call upon the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve the ways of peace and play their part in the development of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its bodies and institutions."
Today Israel is recognized by most nations including of course USA, Britain and Russia.
Summary.
Great Britain was trying to get Jews and Arabs to live in harmony; their biggest mistake was to underestimate and not really understanding Zionism and Islamic beliefs. The Balfour declaration was I believe could have been two bladed give the Zionist most of what they wanted and give the means to rid Britain and Europe of a Jewish problem by allowing them to immigrate and hoping most would, Anti Semitism was a growing problem in Europe. Great Britain did not come out smelling of roses the state of Israel would not exist and the problems in Palestine and the Middle East may have never occurred with out British influence and giving in to the wishes of Zionism.

The Jews proclaimed that Israel was an Independent State
The British withdrew from Palestine and on the 14th May 1948, the Jews proclaimed that Israel was an Independent State. On 15th May 1948 their Arab neighbors attacked Israel. An attempt to create a Palestinian State was blocked by Jordan and Egypt. Israel won its first battle and when a final cease fire was declared in 1949 Israel had increased its boundaries set by the original UN plan 78% of the land west of the river Jordan. Jordan held the West Bank with Egypt holding the Gaza Strip.  Approximately 690.000 Arabs fled to become refugees in neighboring Arab territories. The Armistice Board commission was not able to obtain a permanent peace treaty from the Arab nations and the new borders never received international recognition.

The refugee problem was not solved as Israel wanted to control and limit the numbers of Arabs allowed back into Israel. So only a small amount of refugees eventual returned to Israel.

Prior to 1956 Israel suffered continuous raids on its Egyptian Border, plus the Egyptian closed the Straits of Tiran and the Suez Canal to Israeli shipping. This lead to the 1956 British and French backed Israeli invasion of the Sinai Peninsular and the Suez Canal. Under the instructions and a guarantee that International waterways would remain open to Israeli shipping from USA, Israel withdrew and a UN force was stationed in Sinai.

Nine years after in 1967 Egypt’s President Nasser dismissed the UN forces and re-closed the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping. This led to Israel to retaliate; they attacked the Egyptians on the 5th June 1967. The Jordanians and Syrians started shelling Israeli territories. The UN arranged a ceasefire on 11th June 1967, Israel had occupied the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, The Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights and showed its great skill in military planning, execution and its ability to defend the state of Israel.

In 1967 Israel expand its borders and became responsible for a million more Arabs, The Palestine Refugees fate began to play a major role in the Israeli and Arab dispute, which has led to Palestine terrorists organizations such as Fatah (The movement for liberation of Palestine) founded in 1957. Of which was followed by the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) founded in 1964.  Their aim was to destroy Israel.  In 1967 the PLO old leader Ahmad Shukairy was replaced by Yasser Arafat of whom had been the leader of Fatah. The Arab States started to recognize the PLO as the representatives of Palestine but Israel condemned the PLO because of their terrorist acts against Jews.

After 1967 the Israeli Government declared that it would return all of the land won in the six day war all accept Jerusalem for peace treaties with all its Arab neighbors.  But separate nationalist religious groups began building settlements in the West Bank and the Golan Heights, under the pretext this is part of the promised lands.  When the opposition revisionist Likud political party can into power they made it official policy as part of a resettlement plan.

1970 the PLO revolted against the Jordanian government of which led to the PLO being pushed out of Jordan into Lebanon. Lebanon became the PLO base to attack Israel. This led the Israli’s into attacking Lebanon and to push the PLO forces into Tunis.
Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israeli forces in October 1973 to regain lost territories; the Israelis soon recovered and pushed back both the Syrian and Egyptian forces within a month. In 1978 Egypt and Israeli signed the Camp David agreement that lead to the 1979 peace treaty. 1982 see the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Sinai Peninsula.

In 1987 the Arab Intifadeh revolt started in the both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in connection to the Israeli Jewish settlement plan. In 1993 and 1995 Both Israel and the PLO signed the Oslo declaration of principles and the Oslo interim agreement. In 1994 Jordan and Israel signed a peace treaty,

In 1995, as part of the peace process Israel withdrew its troops from the Gaza Strip and cities of the West Bank, the Palestinians where given control of these areas. 1996 see Yasser Arafat being declared the President of Palestine (by the Palestine’s). However the negotiations for final settlement broke down in July 2000 when the Palestinians insisted that all Palestinian refugees should be given the rights to return to Israel. The problem with that would have meant the Arabs would be the majority. Israel insisted on annexing key portions of the Palestine area so that most of their settlements would be left intact. On 28th September 2000 Palestinian violence was triggered off by a visit by Ariel Sharon to the temple mount in Jerusalem. Of which also stands the holy mosque of Al-Aqsa.

2002 Israeli government officials stated that they thought that Fatah sub-group al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades commenced attacks towards Israel in order to compete with Hamas. Later in May 2002 the Israeli government released a report concerning documents captured from Arafats headquarters in Ramallah, of which showed authorization of funding al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade signed by Arafat.

Arafat died 11th November 2004; he had been confined at his Head Quarters a compound in Ramallah for more than two years, surrounded by the Israeli Defense Forces. The exact cause remains unknown, but rumors spread that he had been poisoned or died of AIDS. But I firmly believe that it was most probably an old age problem such as reported by some doctors, he was 75 years old.
  
Since Yasser Arafat death the Hamas’s political wing won local elections in Gaza, Nablus and Qalqilya. The Hanas claimed a victory over the ruling party Fatah in a January parliamentary election . They where elected on their charter “There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad”  Hamas also gained popularity by funding and building hospitals, education systems, libraries and social services in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. After the elections’ fighting between Fatah and Hamas has become the norm, many Palestinian have died in these skirmishes. Hamas was elected as the Palestinian Government in 2006.

After being elected, Hamas pledged that they would give up suicide attacks in return for a 10 year truce with Israel to include a complete withdrawal from occupied Palestine territories, the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.  They declared a cease fire of which was very short lived as Israel invoked a air strike in response to Hamas smuggling weapons into Gaza.  After a battle between Hamas and Fatah in Gaza June 2007, start because the Fatah party refusing to hand over control to the new government, Hamas officials were thrown out and replaced by Fatah and independent members in the Palestine National Authority government in the West Bank
On the 18th June Mahmoud Abbas the Palestine President (Fatah party) issued a degee that outlawed the Hamas militia plus the Hamas executive force.

Summary:

From the very start Israel has had to be on the defensive, due to their Arab neighbors attitude, they attacked Israel first as soon as the British forces left. The cause behind misery of the Palestine refugees is in fact the Arabs initial military reaction by declaring war on Israel.

Since the initial war Israel has had to invoke war against its neighbors to stop a blockade against its shipping, imports and exports being an important factor to Israel’s survival. Israel has learnt to be cruel to its enemies as its enemies have been cruel to Israel.

I really could not see the harm Israel could of caused if left alone by the Arab states, in fact the Arabs could have benefited off learning how to make deserts, swamps and arid lands in to productive agricultural dreams. I feel that Religious indifference has been a big factor from the very beginning of this seemly unsolvable problem. Many mistakes have been made; the British and UN did not handle or see the problem that the new state of Israel would cause.

I find no true blame that USA favors Israel in fact I feel that USA has more investment needs to favor Arab states due to its need to secure world oil supply.

Israel is not a totally innocent party in 1949 they had a chance of being more diplomatic, allowing all the Arab refugees back into Israel and negotiating return of land it had captured. The promise of sharing technology of reclaiming desert land, could have been a factor to create friendship with its neighbors. Instead it ended up in an eye for an eye vendetta.   The stupidity Likud political party of building settlements on lands that where in dispute that the actual Zionist party had promised to give back, started a chain of events that has flared back on Israel.

The religious claims concerning, Jerusalem, by the Christians, Muslims and Jews have of course inflated the problem and shows the problem to be a religious one. It would have been better to have annexed Jerusalem as UN protectorate as a holy city. As an after thought, each of these religions are related to the same god. May be its time to question their gods planning seemingly he does not care how many innocent souls are injured, killed and have their lives damaged concerning the Holy Land. Or is this god is playing a game of chess with these people, with each thinking Gods on our side. Crazy to be sure as the devil seems to be in charge, that’s if he exists.
