SeattleIAM Daily Blog Report: Proposition 1: a Sound Idea, Housevalues.com Settles out of Court, Seahawks Schedule Looks Good
This is a selection of recent popular blog articles from SeattleIAM where you will find the best blogs from Seattle, Washington as well as video uploads, social networking, rumors, and blog authoring.
Proposition 1: a Sound Idea
The Seattle Transit Blog has addressed the numerous reasons why proposition 1 is important to Seattle's sustainable future. According to the post, “the Sound Transit component of Proposition 1 targets our urban cores with real alternatives that will help create a more stable economy and more efficient land use - and we needed it 80 years ago.” The main issue seems to be that Seattle's current infrastructure encourages a reliance on automobiles despite attempts at extending transit services, in one form or another, to various suburban areas. “We've ended up with a massive amount of highway capital infrastructure in a time when the energy necessary to drag everyone around in a rubber tired, 4000 pound steel box is becoming increasingly scarce.”
Seattle Transit Blog declares that a well-laid out rail system is the key part of Proposition 1 that will effectively convince people to give up driving their cars constantly. One of the problems with existing rail infrastructure is that most people require a second trip, either by bus or car, to get onto a commuter train. “People don't like to transfer, even if that's just getting in their cars at a park and ride.” The post was insistent that Proposition 1 will be of economic benefit to the area despite an increase in sales tax. “Even if you're just counting the direct cost of sprawling infrastructure needs, ignoring all the other benefits of building a dedicated transit corridor, building this is much cheaper than paying the spiraling costs to support waves of shoddy homes at the edges of the region.”
Seahawks Schedule is a Reason to Smile
While the latest post from 12 Seahawks Street was relatively depressed about the Seahawks recent loss, there are several reasons for optimism- namely three upcoming games in the Seahawks schedule. The general consensus, as of late, has been that Seattle are not performing near the limits of their capabilities and 12 Seahawks Street was very confident that the team will be able to turn things around in the Week 10 match-up against the San Francisco 49ers. The post declared, “Some people are worried about the team and it’s record being subpar enough to cause a major rule change, eliminating the automatic playoff bid for division winners. After looking at the schedule for the rest of the regular season, this is not a worry I share.”
After the 49'ers, the Seahawks will face Saint Louis in Week 12 and Arizona will visit during Week 14. According to the post, “These three games, division games, should be easy wins. The division is down. The teams, especially the teams below the Hawks, are weak.” In fact, 12 Seahawks Street even went so far as to offer a prediction for the team's end of season record. “Looking at these teams, considering these factors, hoping for the change in offensive philosophy by the Walrus, I don’t see Seattle doing worse than 11-5.” Seattle fans should be looking up as the schedule gods have clearly shined on the Seahawks in the latter part of the season.
Housevalues.com Settles out of Court
John Cook's Venture blog is reporting that Kirkland-based real-estate lead generator Housevalues.com has agreed to settle a lawsuit alleging various improprieties. The post revealed that “HouseValues.com has agreed to pay $51,000 in costs and attorney fees and revamp some of its business practices.” Cook noted that Housevalues.com has not admitted wrongdoing and has merely agreed to settle the case. The allegations were filed by the Attorney Generals Office.
The settlement states that “the company will be prevented from misrepresenting the quality of leads its provides to real estate agent as well as the subscription term. It also will not be permitted to charge an early termination fee unless it is clearly disclosed to the subscriber.” The post also noted that the Attorney Generals Office believe Housevalues.com had also “locked real estate agents into restrictive agreements.” The post quoted Assistant Attorney General Shannon Smith stating “Washington businesses cannot mislead consumers about the quality or character of their products.”
New Coach, Two Gold Gloves for the Mariners
The latest post from Mariners Insider has noted some “unofficially-official” news about the Seattle Mariners roster and coaching team. The term “unofficially-official” was used because “It’s happened but hasn’t been announced yet – that the Seattle Mariners have a new third base coach and two Gold Glove Award winners.” The recent spate of acquisitions to the Mariners coaching staff are now complete since Sam Perlozzo is said to be finalizing a contract to take up a position on John McLaren's staff. According to the post, “a longtime minor league player, the 56-year-old Perlozzo has coached with the Reds, Mariners, Twins and Orioles and managed Baltimore until being fired last summer.”
Additionally, Mariners Insider reported that the two Gold Glove award winners are Ichiro Suzuki and Adrien Beltre. The post mentioned that this is now Ichiro's seventh Gold Glove Award and his first as a center-fielder. Beltre picks up the honors for his role on the hot corner. “For Beltre, it’s an honor he’s wanted for years – and probably won in part because usual third base winner Eric Chavez of Oakland was injured most of the season.”
