I am cheating a bit as this is not really a news item.

As you may have already guessed I really love Christmas and I always arrange things so that I can take an extended break at Christmas. This year I have a three week holiday and I will be in Brussels (rather than Dublin) for Christmas Day.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry christmas by including a photograph that I took in an area of Dublin that is very much associated with U2.

I would appreciate it if you would be so kind as to add to this by uploading a photograph of your favourite Christmas display.

This was taken on a side street in Cork, Ireland, where I was on a short work visa for the holidays in 2006. It sums up perfectly how I felt about Christmas that year!

I really like it.
I came across a very interesting form of advertising by Guinness here in Dublin. Visit the following link to see it:

taken at Sha Tin, Hong Kong, outside the urban council and marriage registry. One of the many Christmas displays in HK. Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

As an annual tradition, my boyfriend and I visit the Christmas light display on the Legislature grounds in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. This year it seemed like the majority of the lights had been upgraded to the environmentally friendly LED's. I love this spot, it has great atmosphere and I can't help but smile when I'm there.

An extremely impressive display is located on Asbury Court in Henrico County, Virginia, and consists of two heavily decorated homes with at least 150,000 combined lights. Dozens of people stop by in cars, buses, and even limousines to look at these lights and decorations. Santa himself has even made a cameo appearance or two. It's probably the most impressive display I have ever seen.

This set of billboards is at the end of my street.

The State Farm Insurance billboard is only relevant in Ohio to Buckeyes fans.  Clearly, we do not have wolverines here!

The beauty is they could switch places and still create the same message.

I enjoy taking spherical panographs, but had never gotten one inside the mall. I know that malls are actually private property and the management dictates the use of cameras, at least obvious big cameras on tripods. The local mall's Christmas display looked to good to pass up, so I asked permission. Low and behold - permission granted.

Bergdorf Goodman display that won a display award a few years ago. Has great sound system as the 'snowflakes' flash in sync with the songs. Can be viewed from the Xmas tree @ Rockefeller or 5 blocks down or up 5th Avenue New York. Cheers~

5th Avenue in New York is always a great place for over-the-top department store windows. Bergdorf Goodman's Christmas displays this year are inspired by the late designer Tony Duquette.

This very elaborate and elegant display is at a private residence in a quiet residential area of San Antonio Texas. Everything is life size, including the horses. It appears to a display within a display. The manger seen being the "actual" display and the rest depicting guest arriving for a Christmas party.

I took a picture of this billboard in one of the busiest highways in Manila because my Christmas decors were on the donuts... Happy Holidays!

These are some lights in Shinjuku in Tokyo, Japan. The Japanese don't do much for Christmas, but I thought these lights were nice so I got a shot of them.

Every Year, Nagoya Station puts out an impressive display of lights trees and flowers. It is something the whole city looks forward to. Each year is completely different and unique. 2007's illumination seems to be about castles and storybooks with cuddly bears.

This is a photo of ice on a tree that is reflecting the light from a Christmas display. It's the first year where I've ever encountered this and it made all the Christmas displays look even more amazing.

Texas to Mexico

I live in Monterrey Mexico 85% of the year. The public Christmas diplays in Monterrey are quite overwhelming full of color & contrasts with a huge variety of materials I don't normally see elsewhere. This is a photo of 3 trees made of some type of preformed concrete with enormous bows & boxes. Each street & public display seems to be more spectacular than the next. Christmas South of the Border in Mexico is positively bursting with color & festivity. Lively & certainly an appealing look a the Mexican lifestyle during the holidays!
