A nurse and a patient have died from a deadly
new strain of MRSA after a superbug outbreak at a hospital in Britain, said the
Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Monday.

Four other workers at the same hospital also contracted Panton-Valentine
Leukocidin-positive (PVL) MRSA, in what is the first time the toxic strain of
the superbug has caused infection and deaths in a hospital, the agency said.

The strain, which is particularly virulent, attacks healthy young people
and can cause symptoms ranging from minor infections in the skin and soft tissue
to a form of pneumonia that can kill in 24 hours.
