UPDATE:

He just wasn't that into her.

[q

panda porn failed to spark amour, Thai zoo authorities turned Monday to
artificial insemination in the hope of impregnating their lone female
giant panda.

Authorities at the Chiang Mai Zoo in northern Thailand inseminated
Lin Hui with semen from her cage-mate, Chuang Chuang, on Monday morning
and will repeat the procedure on Tuesday. The artificial insemination
is a last ditch effort to get Lin Hui pregnant, after videos of pandas
having sex failed to entice Chuang Chuang into mating with his partner.

"He just didn't want to mate. He was looking at her as a friend,"
said Sophon Dummui, director general of Thai Zoo Organization of
Thailand which oversees the Chiang Mai Zoo.

PREVIOUSLY: Zookeepers are using sex tapes (presumably featuring pandas) to get their captive pandas in the mood for love. I remember reading about this many years ago, except with gorillas.

As notoriously sex-shy giant pandas reach adulthood in China -- around the age of six -- they are now routinely given ringside seats to panda porn as part of their initiation rites.

When Didi turned six on Tuesday at the China Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center in Wolong, he sat eyes glued in front of a screen that showed a video of two giant pandas mating, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

"Didi seemed to like his gift immensely," it reported of his coming of age.

While it is not clear how far the "sex education lesson" goes into the finer details of the art of love-making, this X-rated scene is being repeated across China to pander to their basic instincts.

I would think that life in a cage would have some influence on the libido. Just look at Kate and Sawyer on Lost.
