NP Rank:
Paris Hilton is out of Jail
Ms. Hilton checks out early...
Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the LA County Sherriff's Dept, has held a press conference, the details of which are below. For our Australian friends, this is, quite literally, yesterday's news...

heiress Paris Hilton was released from prison yesterday for medical
reasons after serving just over three days of a 23-day sentence.
But she will be confined to her home for 40 days, officials said.
Steve Whitmore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office said
Hilton had been "reassigned" but he declined to identify her medical
condition for privacy reasons.
"With extensive consultation with medical personnel it was decided
this reassignment should be done," Whitmore said at a news conference.
Hilton, a symbol of privilege and American celebrity culture, was
serving a sentence for violating probation after being caught driving
with a suspended licence. She will have to wear an electronic
monitoring device on her ankle to ensure she does not go out for the
next 40 days.
One reporter described Hilton's job as going to parties and events
and asked if she would be allowed to leave her home for work, just as
lifestyle media star Martha Stewart could during her five months under
house arrest for insider trading.
"My understanding is that she's confined to her home with an ankle
bracelet, she cannot leave that facility," said Whitmore. "She will
fulfill the remainder of her time confined to her home."[/q]
Looks like she will serve out the entirety of her sentence (not the abbreviated 23-day deal, but the remaining 40 days) under the supervision of the Los Angeles Countey Probation Dept, which would mean house arrest. Could be worse, I suppose, as her house is probably pretty nice.
A journalist just asked whether, since home-ec empress Martha Stewart was occassionally allowed out of jail to conduct business, if Paris Hilton will be allowed out of her house to attend parties, as that is basically her business. Mr. Whitmore referred the journalist to Ms. Hilton's probation officer.
Building on that question, though, would she be able to throw parties at her house?
TMZ has learned that Paris Hilton has not only had her sentence cut short, she is already out of jail!
Unimpeachable sources tell TMZ the deal was sealed yesterday, and that Hilton made her exit early early this morning.
She was originally sentenced to 45 days in jail, but that was reduced to 23. She served a total of three days.

jordan, thanks for getting this story out so quickly. It will now show up on the home page for four hours. If new developments justify it, I'll renew this flag for another cycle.

Good story Jordan,
Wow, big surprise there, but when laws take a backseat to celebrity it's pretty much par for the course and ordinary Joes get the book.
Now I wonder how many Judges will don lifejackets and paddles if in future Hilton takes someone out in her Beemer.
You sort of wonder why Police unjustly sometimes take the law into their own hands when fiascos like this are a daily occurence in LaLa land.

Were can I committ a crime and get a sentence like that? I could use the rest.... -> Good stuff.

I'm feeling negative today...I hate the fact that she didn't spend 23 days in jail AFTER she was sentenced. I loathe the fact she was allowed to keep her hair extensions in. Where do I sign up to become a celebrity so I can do virtually whatever I want?

I disagree with letting her go. She's a worthless celebrity bimbo, contributing absolutely nothing to the world. We would be better off with her in jail.

very sad news for an example of our justice system
will nothing be done till someone is hurt by hollywood celebs drinking and driving - she really should be doing public realations work for MADD n DARE

Wht "medical condition" was this, then? Early-onset sobriety? I suspect (though I have no proof of course) that she was too expensive to keep, as it were, for such a relatively minor offense. Still it rankles because so many young black Americans get banged up for marijuana possession but lack the fame to simply get away with it.

But just think of the huge cost of protecting this person in jail.
If anything happened to her while she was in jail, awful things could happen to those who allowed it or were involved.
Paris is no Martha Stewart, and she can't help she was born a Hilton.
She sure knows how to play the PR game and make money.
Don't be catty, boys.
