The enforced stay on an Australian beach for bulk carrier Pasha Bulker reportedly is costing the Japanese owners $200,000 per day. Been there some 23 days now. Ouch! Another attempt to refloat will be made tonight (Sunday, Australian time,) when the next King tide is due. Salvage operators are trying to turn the bow seaward. So far it has moved just nine degrees with still a long way to go. A significant sand build up can be seen too in the overhead view which could hinder the next attempt. Yes i said in my post about this that some sand pumping would probably be of benefit is putting more water under the hull.
The $200,000 per day you mention is justv the salvage costs, there will be port authority, police and environmental response teams who will also be putting in their accounts as well. The of course towing fees to whereever they will tow to (an Australian port perhaps?) and the repair bill.
