Securing the border and preventing the terrorists from coming
in. <--- The southern border is probably the easiest way
into the United States, for a terrorist. It is the choice route for
drug smugglers. The psychology of drug smugglers and terrorists is not
so different. Whatever method works for one of these groups, will work
for the other group. <--- Do Mexicans with a dream, need
a U.S. government? Would Mexicans with a dream, like the U.S. border to
be moved south to Guatemala?

What about the east and west coast? Wouldn't that be easier? No border guards on the beaches of South Carolina as far as I know.

It's the risk factor. There's a greater risk using the east and west
coasts. The southern land border has less risk. If the southern border
ever becomes high-risk, the east and west coasts will become lesser
risks. That's when there will be greater pressure on the U.S.
Coastguard.
