On the eve of the release of his new studio album, Paul McCartney decided to give New York City fans a a bit of a treat: a "secret" (it was all over the net, but you know) show at Highline Ballroom. The intimate set was also notable for one distinctly un-McCartney way: it was completely free. First come, first served. Thanks, Sir Paul!
The former Beatle, who turns 65 next week, wowed more than 900 fans – including Aidan Quinn, Steve Buscemi, Elijah Wood, and Whoopi Goldberg – at New York City's Highline Ballroom. In Manhattan to promote his new CD, Memory Almost Full, McCartney opened the 90-minute show with the classic Beatle tune "Drive My Car," instantly throwing the crowd into a frenzy that escalated throughout the evening.

I just got home from the Celebrate Brooklyn! summer opener in Prospect Park a few minutes ago...rumors were circulating that he was going to be a special guest tonight...but unfortunately it didn't happen. Still a great show.
