Women with PCOS report feeling 'freakish', 'abnormal', and not 'proper' women. The feelings are based on excess hair growth, irregular periods and infertility. Smooth, hairless bodies and faces, regular menstruation and the capacity to bear children are associated with femininity.  PCOS is a deeply stigmatizing condition, a thief of womanhood.
