Most of us grew up with Evel Knievel. He was a real Comic Book Hero. He lived hard and his body took a lot of abuse. I welcome NPr's to add any footage they like in honor of Evel....Just days ago he made peace with Kanye West, so Evel knew the end was near R.I.P.

Fla. (AP) - Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose
jumps over Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon
made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

Knievel's death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel.
He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and
pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs.

Knievel had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying
of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one
of his bone-shattering spills.

Immortalized in the Washington's Smithsonian Institution as
"America's Legendary Daredevil," Knievel was best known for a failed
1974 attempt to jump Snake River Canyon on a rocket-powered cycle and a
spectacular crash at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. He suffered nearly
40 broken bones before he retired in 1980.[/q]

A true Legend.

One of the amazing aspects of his jumps was that the
bikes were like dinosaurs in today's world. Both heavy and cumbersome with not much for shocks.

I'd like to see some of
the riders these days jump huge gaps on one of those old school bikes.
He is one of those people that love or hate him, he changed his sport
forever and was a true pioneer.

mpress, Good stuff.

This was Evel Knieve Days 2006. It's Robbie Knievel doing a jump to honor Evel. We went to a Charity Dinner and got to shake Evel's hand and say hello.
