FIREFIGHTERS took a break from tackling blazes to give Rushden vehicles a good clean at the weekend.

Drivers donated more than £900 after 15 firefighters spent Saturday hosing and scrubbing cars at Rushden Fire Station.

One motorist handed over £250.

The money raised will be split between the firefighters’ National Benevolent Fund, which supports fire service personnel and their dependants, and the Aaron Goss Fund, which is raising money for Ecuador firefighters in memory of the Wollaston schoolboy who lost his life during a school trip last summer.
