Standing before a sign in front of Donna Karan's zen-ny new age Greenwich Village shop reading "Raise Awareness Inspire Change", one  PETA advocate holds a sign to raise awareness of a perceived other side to the designer's consciousness: "Donna Karan - Bunny Butcher." Another advocate was around the corner in the midst of the flowing crowd attending Karan's afternoon event today, while a third stood facing the door .

The well-behaved, well-dressed activists took advantage of the freedom of the public sidewalk to continue the organization's long-standing argument with Karan and other fashion designers, who they blame for contributing to the brutal killing of animals for decorative fur clothing. PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is opposed to the use of animals for other purposes as well, including cosmetics research.

The picketed event was one of many, both business and other, Karan has held at this venue, including some honoring public figures like the Dalai Lama and Hillary Clinton on separate occasions.
