“Shout to the world, the Lord is here…” a group of faithful worshippers are singing joyfully on a peaceful Sunday at the Southside community church that is located at 7135 Walker Avenue, Burnaby. The Southside community church in Burnaby was built back in 1992 and it is known as the Edmonds Town Centre (ETC). Southside has many branch campuses throughout the lower mainland such as Robson Park, Forest Grove, Fleetwood, and Willoughby. Southside did not just closed in on themselves under the roof of Lord, instead they are more than pleased to open up to the community and serve the community at God’s will. Oftentimes Southside organizes certain events or activities that involve the whole community such as ‘kids soccer camp’, ‘Free ESL classes’ and ‘A Taste Of Edmonds’. “It is a pleasure for me to work with these kids, and it certainly brings me the joy to see them happy,” commented by a church member named Grayson Smith who volunteered to coach the ‘kids summer soccer camp’. ‘A Taste OF Edmond’ is a big event that has being hold every year on the Labour Day of September. On this event, the church is opening up to the community with many wonderful features on the street such as food booths, kid’s rides, singing bands, and acrobat. “I am so happy that I am part of this event, it is a precious experience for me to getting to know these people around the neighborhood” said by Linda Smith while she is busily serving food. In 2002, about 3000 people came down to the event and 800 people enjoyed the free pork meal. “We are more than welcome everyone in the community and neighborhood to come to our church. And we would answer every question on your mind about us” said by Dan Bennett who is a main church staff.
