NP Rank:
Supremacist Interviews Beaten Student and Jena Mayor
Richard Barrett, leader of the group, asked Mayor Murphy McMillin, of Jena, Louisiana, to "set aside some place for those opposing the colored folks". The mayor is quoted as saying, "I am not endorsing any demonstrations, but I do appreciate what you are trying to do. Your moral support means a lot."
In the interviews, it is reported the mayor praised efforts of pro-white groups to organize counter-demonstrations. Justin Barker, the White youth beaten in the incident that has resulted in charges being brought against the Jena 6, urged white readers to " realize what is going on, speak up and speak their mind."
On September 20, 2007, the day of the march and rally of support for the Jena 6, a neo Nazi web site posted the names, addresses and phone numbers of the Jena 6 and family members on line, including the message, "Lynch the Jena 6". Since that time, the families of the Jena 6 have been receiving threatening phone calls.
The FBI says it is monitoring the situation.
Later, stating he nor his family were White supremacists, David Barker, Justin's dad, said the family was unaware of the nature of the White supremacy group but, Barrett contradicts this assertion.
The article states that:
(But) Barrett said he explained his group and its beliefs to the Barker family, who then invited him to stay overnight at their home on the eve of last week's protest march.
