An Alberta trapper who survived for four days pinned under his ATV in the wild has become the subject of worldwide attention.

Hildebrand, 55, who maintains a residence in Coleman, went out to check his animal traps Jan. 8. His ATV hit a rock and rolled on his good leg, pinning him face down.

He survived by scraping the early morning frost from the ground for moisture, and by blowing an emergency whistle to scare off prowling coyotes and wolves.

When he was found by two hikers, Hildebrand was suffering from frostbite, hypothermia, dehydration and starvation.

"He has a really strong will," said Kronyk. "He wouldn't let himself go to sleep because he knew he wouldn't wake up." ...more.....
