"Through my mindless wandering around the internet I've come across these two sites. Pixelotto.com and Pixel-Grid.com Now both seem to have the same idea. Sell 1,000,000 pixels for $2 bucks each. After all pixels are sold give away $1 Million dollars. So the question is. Does the internet really need 2 sites like this? I'm guessing no and I believe there will be only one winner out of the 2 sites. I've thrown both sites in the ring and given them a quick unbiased review.
5 rounds 10 possible points awarded per round. The Gloves are off who will win?

Round 1: Originality

Pixelotto was an idea born out of the need for more money. The team behind it has already done a million dollar pixel site. And it did well! So this idea is a bit of an improvement rather then a "brand new" idea. But that's fine they did well before lightning can strike twice and looking at his $130 grand plus sales so far id say he's going to do it again.

Pixel-grid on the other hand is about as original as a sidewalk. Its the exact same premise as Pixelotto. The site is clearly the uninvited house guest. However the young man was smart enough to try and pull the same stunt at the same time.

Round 2: Site presentation

Pixelotto has a decent looking site. Although the blocky pixel ads have a natural tendency to look like a Crayola crayon colouring book, the site does look decent. I suppose the team knew enough to get some decent design work done. However it still looks only ok. The choice of colours in my opinion are mediocre. Although I assume no one will really care in the end how the background looks.

Pixel-grid's site looks like he made it himself. It unfortunately shows. Although I know not everyone can programme or do design, I would highly recommend Daniel Moxon go out and get him self a designer as soon as he sells 50k worth of ad space. Id pay for the design work if I could get the free ad space just to help him out, but really I'm in pretty much the same boat he is in. and you cant save someone from drowning if you cant swim. The design cuts the credibility of the site down a lot, but it does get the job done. Its informative and clear. Maybe Daniel will read this and hire someone.

Round 3: Chances of success

Pixelotto has been around this block before. They know how to handle the page views, the press, the criticism and the design and the legality (we hope) of the project. Id say they have a definite advantage in that area

Points awarded: 8

Pixel-Grid seems to have never done this before. Perhaps that will be Daniels down fall. Or perhaps that will be his strength. Sometime we don't know what is happening and so for that reason we pay more attention. I'm sure at 18 with the possibility of $1 million dollars coming in he is paying A LOT of attention to how he is handling things. I guess time will tell.

Points awarded: 7

Round 4: Press coverage

I'm guessing that between the two sites Pixelotto will get the lion share of the press. They were the first to market. They have learned from the million dollar page experience. I'm sure they have the connections to get the press frenzy going.

Points awarded: 8

Pixel-gird will play second fiddle for his plagiarism. I'm sure of 2 things here. The press will portray him as a greedy young man with no ideas of his own, and/or give his site a small blurb at the end of the article as part of the "riding the coat tails of success" type ramble. The great thing about that is there is no such thing as bad publicity. As long as his site gets hits...who cares what the press thinks. If enough press connect the 2 of them together he will have a stronger following then if they never knew about him. In fact I think that if the 2 sites can be seen as competing it will sell the ad space on both sites faster then if they were with out competition.

Points awarded: 6

Round 5: Who should win?

Pixelotto. The people behind this have already made their cash on a similar site. I'm assuming that the money bug has bitten them and they are out to earn some more cash. Or they have run through all the money their first site brought in. I would have to say good for them on making it twice. However, after the success of the first site they could have earned a ton if they had started a new business or made some good investments.

Points awarded: 2

Pixel-gird. Although he took someone else's idea an ran with it, I would have to say that I would want Pixel grid to come out the winner. Why? Well be cause he's young and ambitious, and was smart enough to know that this is a good idea. He's also got a bit of a plan with regards the money. I'm sure after the money starts rolling in he will go off and spend it on something stupid like a 100k sports car before he gets a decent house. All new money make that mistake, they think the easy money will keep rolling in. Hopefully some well meaning guardian or friend will sit down and convince him to put it away first, until he gets his mind strait on what he wants to do exactly.

And the winner is....

It was close but in the end Pixelotto won by 5 number of points.
The scores were 31 for Pixelotto and 26 for Pixelgrid

So there you have it folks $4 million dollars is about to exchange hands. It will create 4 millionaires and you could have a part of it. I'm sure in the next 2-3 months one or both of these pages will be sold out and in 6 a winner will be awarded. Check back as ill be keeping track of these sites in the upcoming weeks to report the race.
