GELSENKIRCHEN, Jun 8 (SW) - With a large supporter base set to invade Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Poland will look for a positive start to their Group A campaign tomorrow evening against Ecuador.

The World Cup has finally started. Poland meets Equador for the second game of the day in Gelsenkirchen's Veltins Arena. Host team, Germany, has opened the tournament in Munich (the capital of Bavaria) against Costa Rica. Germany won 4-2...

Both teams' national anthems were played and the game is beginning.

Poland was supposed to have a good showing in the last World Cups, but never had a change to live up to the high expectations. This years team returns, and is much more prepared to make a run at the tournament.

Equador came through a tough South American qualifier. However, they finished third following Brazil and Argentina. They will be a tough opponent for Poland.

Free Kick for Poland...but the Polish player misses the goal.

20 minutes in the game...

The Poland attacks are getting more aggressive. But the Equadorian defense still holds strong...

Radomski fouled. Both teams are fighting to score. It seems that they are equally strong.

Equador just attacked twice and came very close to scoring, but Poland's defense is holding strong....

The Polish fans are cheering for their team, and seem to dominate the stadium with their large numbers over the Equadorian fans...

The percentage of ball possession was almost equal among the two teams in the first half ... it seems to continue like this in the second half...

Almost 15 minutes into the second half ... the teams are fighting hard to score ... 

The Polish fans still keep cheering for their team as if they would be leading the match! Go, Poland, Go!!! 

But Equador's defense does an amazing job in defending Poland's attacks.

Poland was favored to win this game, however it is almost save to say that Equador has wrapped that game up!!!

Poland got close twice to cut Equador's lead. Approximately 5 minutes left ...

Poland is trying hard to score, but it seems that they can not break through the Equadorian defense ...  

This is the first time Equador has scored two goals in a FIFA World Cup Game.

The Equadorian fans are celebrating. The Game is over!!! Equador won with two goals!!! Equador played a great game in Gelsenkirchen!!!

Poland's next scoring chance will come when they face Germany on June 14th in Dortmund.
