Asia-Pasific military leaders agree to step up non-combat operations

"We agreed to improve and make non-combat military operations the focus of our attention," Suyanto said here Wednesday in relating his participation in an Asia-Pacific defense forces commanders meeting last week.

Speaking after the installation of the new navy chief of staff, Vice Admiral Sumardjono, at the State Palace, Suyanto said at present bilateral or multilateral cooperation in defense and military should be focused on humanitarian missions.
