BigT’s Roundup - Tuesday Ed. (10-9-07)
You Read, I'm Right. From ConservativeINC.
BigT
It went through the conservative blogosphere like fire through the dry California brush. Power Line, Jihad Watch, Right Wing News, The Tank at NRO, and NewsBusters all reported on a
story by Eli Lake in the New York Sun that claimed our link (SITEs link
if you want to be particular) to al Qaeda’s computer system went dark
after it was leaked that we had this access in the first place. But was there a leak? Well, Little Green Footballs links to another site, called the Jawa Report, and they Jawa has this to say:
I know what the NY Sun and Washington Post are saying
about a major source of intel being burned by a leak, but it just isn’t
so. Rita Katz and the SITE Institute do a great job, but attributing
the interception of this video to them is just false. Sure, they
intercepted the video—as did Laura Mansfield and other groups that do
similar work as SITE, but let’s check the claim out.
WaPo:at 10 a.m. on Sept. 7, [SITE] notified the Bush administration of its secret acquisition.
And in the Sun article:
Rita Katz, said she personally provided the video on September 7 to the
deputy director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Michael Leiter. So, SITE claims they are the source of the video given to the White
House. Rita claims she personally gave the video to authorities on
September 7th. But let’s take a quick look at the very bottom of the
translation of the video leaked by ABC’s Blotter:9/5/07
That means that the White House had a translation of the video a
full 24 hours before SITE intercepted it. Apparently, our intel guys
are better than we thought.Sure, the fools over at al Ekhlaas have closed down their back room, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other back rooms.
So, just because SITE’s intel source got burned, doesn’t mean that
we’ve lost capability of tracking al Qaeda online. In fact, SITE was
not the only one that had the “new” bin Laden 9/11 video before it was
supposed to be released, as these two articles suggest. Both Intel Center and Laura Mansfield also had the video. Hell, I had the video.
So, sorry to hear that SITE has lost its edge. And it really sucks that it was someone at The White House who leaked the video.
But why would you give the video to the White House and not to the
FBI or CIA? The White House leaks like a sieve. That’s just the way the
White House works.
While it is true that the government leaked the intel, what else can
the government do well, it is also true that someone else had the intel
before SITE did. And, lets face it, if a bunch of Turkish hackers can take over 5,000 Swedish website over a weekend I think we can hack into a network that is left helpless without the services of the Geek Squad.
While the conservative blogosphere was atwitter over another leak
compromising our national security the kookosphere was all hot and
bothered about the warming of our precious blue orb. Given stories from
Yahoo! about hot winters and deadly greenhouse levels who can blame them? Oh, that’s right, that’s what I do.
Some good natured chaps in England were so freaked about this news that they decided to take over a power plant in their merry ol’ country.
I’m usually all for hostile takeovers but if this is true I think it
may be a tad bit extreme. But it’s also a little bit extreme to give an ex-VP the Nobel Prize for championing a cause
I hardly think warrants a half melted ice cream on Christmas Day. On
the bright side, think about all the carbon offsets he can buy once he
gets the check for his good intentions. In all seriousness though, here’s ten plus one reasons why Gore is wrong according to a British court:
* The film claims that melting snows on Mount
Kilimanjaro evidence global warming. The Government’s expert was forced
to concede that this is not correct.* The film suggests that evidence from ice cores proves that rising CO2 causes temperature increases over 650,000 years. The
Court found that the film was misleading: over that period the rises in
CO2 lagged behind the temperature rises by 800-2000 years.* The film uses emotive images of Hurricane Katrina and suggests that this has been caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that it was “not possible” to attribute one-off events to global warming.
* The film shows the drying up of Lake Chad and claims that this was caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that this was not the case.
* The film claims that a study showed that polar bears had drowned due to disappearing arctic ice. It
turned out that Mr Gore had misread the study: in fact four polar bears
drowned and this was because of a particularly violent storm.
* The film threatens that global warming could stop the Gulf Stream throwing Europe into an ice age: the Claimant’s evidence was that this was a scientific impossibility.* The film blames global warming for species losses including coral reef bleaching. The Government could not find any evidence to support this claim.
* The film suggests that the Greenland ice covering could melt causing sea levels to rise dangerously. The evidence is that Greenland will not melt for millennia.* The film suggests that the Antarctic ice covering is melting, the evidence was that it is in fact increasing.
* The film suggests that sea levels could rise by 7m causing the displacement of millions of people. In
fact the evidence is that sea levels are expected to rise by about 40cm
over the next hundred years and that there is no such threat of massive
migration.* The film claims that rising sea levels has caused the evacuation of certain Pacific islands to New Zealand. The Government are unable to substantiate this and the Court observed that this appears to be a false claim.
And then there’s Tree Hugger, that wonderful site that bemoaned the situation in Zimbabwe with regards to invasive species, with these two gems about the environment. The first is about a green Bible.
I guess the difference about this Bible is that instead of turning
water into wine he is turning it into high octane fuel that produces
ozone scrubbing exhaust fumes. And the other story is about a dirt poor Mexican city going green. Really? Doesn’t a poor, crime-ridden town need something else. I’m thinking maybe even someone else; how about Rudy Guiliani!
Well, thank your lucky stars because today Rudy and Fred and Mitt and, um, the others had a chance to debate the issues today. Well,
in this clip Mitt muffs a question about lawyers, Ron Paul is being Ron
Paul, and Rudy wallops Ron Paul for being, well, you get the drift.

Some think McCain won this debate
but who cares about debates anyways? Wasn’t it the conventional wisdom
that Bush lost basically every debate he was ever in? And who became
president? But if you have to know what happened read this from Jim Geraghty at the Campaign Spot on NRO.
Back to important stuff, which means stuff that is good news, which
means stuff you’ll never see reported in the MSM. After doing two
stories about the media’s quagmire in Haditha (Haditha: a Case Study in Traitorous Reporting and Terrorists + Media = Haditha Lies) comes this final nail in the coffin for this journalistic misadventure abroad from News Busters.
It’s a long piece so I’ll summarize. New York Times reporter files 34
stories on Haditha being this war’s “defining atrocity” and has now
come out with a story about how the media failed to make it stick.
I want to know where’s the apology from the media for this disgrace.
If only they would apologize for smearing our Marines maybe we could
move on. But they won’t do that.
And someone else won’t apologize for his beliefs, Dr. Ahmadinejad.
Interviewer: You were supposed to visit
the site of the Twin Towers, but this aroused controversy and many
objections in their media. What do you think about this?Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: As you know, by spreading lies
and by portraying me… For example, they show my picture next to a
picture of Bin Laden, or next to tanks and cannons firing and killing
people. This is psychological warfare. 9/11 has led to many significant
changes. It was used as a pretext to occupy Afghanistan and Iraq. It
was the reason for the killing of hundreds of thousands of people. It
is only natural for us to respond in an appropriate manner. I wanted to
visit there last year, but there was no time for that. So I decided to
visit there this year to pay my respect to the casualties and convey my
sympathy to the families. I also wanted to raise several questions and
express my views. I wanted to say that in my opinion, this incident is
the result of the mismanagement of the world, and the result of the
inhuman management of the world. Why did such an incident take place?
We need to get to the root causes. We don’t want them to turn this
incident, in 20 years’ time, into another false idol like the
Holocaust, which they would use as a pretext to kill peoples, and
prevent anybody from opening this [Pandora’s] box and examining what
really happened in this incident. They might turn 9/11 into something
sacred, and whoever does not accept it would be considered an infidel,
whereas whoever accepts it would have to accept all the ensuing crimes.
In any event, we must express our views. I believe that this way, we
would have formed cordial relations with the American people, and cold
have opened this issue up for discussion. Well, this is exactly what
they want to prevent.

And here’s a couple links from the Corner about Ahmadinejad’s great country that is Iran. The first covers the student protests. Their free speech rights were celebrated with tear gas and pepper spray. The other story has a bevy of links to other stories about Iran.
That’s it, it’s late. Here’s the whimsy at the end of this roundup.
BigT’s Linkapalooza:
Some little piggies will go to Michigan some little piggies will not.
Stossel on competition in Health Care.
Forget wiretaps, the CIA is using flying electric bugs with cameras to spy on leftist protesters.
More death in Waziristan, Pakistan is nearing the brink.
And as Pakistan is slipping off the cliff Musharraf is losing power.
al Qaeda’s quagmire in Iraq.
Che and Che.
