I took this photo Sunday January 13/08 while accompanying my friend William Simpson on his way to have a shower at one of the facilities in the Downtown Eastside for homeless people. He wanted to stop by and see if he could get his new memberhsip for the Carnegie, by enlisting the support of the security guard there. T
The guard who was new to the Carnegie, and very friendly, courteous and as helpful as he could be, was not able to get Bill's card. After going inside to consult with other staff, he was told to tell Bill that he would have to arrange to see Ethel Whitty or Dan Tetrault, number one and number two respectively in the Carnegie heirarchy. Bill's reaction to this was one of annoyance and amusement.

The usual procedure is that the president of the board of directors, in this case Margaret Prevost, signs and gives the first 15 memberships of the New Year to the board.
It is not regular for a board member to have to see Dan Tetrault or Ethel Whitty in order to receive their new membership, and I don't blame William for being upset.
This security guard is a nice friendly helpful guy, as you said, and I thank him for that, and thank you for noticing it. It is good to give credit where credit is due.
