Caroline Kennedy Endorses Sen. Obama by diggersf

Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, the former First and only Daughter of the late President John Fitzgerald and Mrs. Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, has written an editorial, appearing in Sunday's January 27, 2008 edition of the New York Times, endorsing Senator Barack Obama for president, entitled, "A President Like My Father".

The editorial, posted at Nytimes.com, reads in part:

I want a president who understands that his responsibility is to articulate a vision and encourage others to achieve it; who holds himself, and those around him, to the highest ethical standards; who appeals to the hopes of those who still believe in the American Dream, and those around the world who still believe in the American ideal; and who can lift our spirits, and make us believe again that our country needs every one of us to get involved.

I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans.

John F. Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States. He assumed the office of the presidency in January 1961, serving until November 22, 1963, when he was struck down by an assassin, who has been identified as Lee Harvey Oswald.

At the time of her father's death in 1963, Caroline was almost six years old.
