Following is the chronology of Soeharto`s downfall in May 1998.



March 5, 1998
Twenty students of University of Indonesia (UI) came to the parliament building to reject Soeharto`s accountability speech delivered to the general session of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and submitted the agenda of national reforms to the parliament. They met with the Armed Forces faction in the House of Representatives.
March 11, 1998
Soeharto and BJ Habibie were sworn in as president and vice president.
March 14, 1998
Soeharto announced a new cabinet called the Development Cabinet VII.
April 15, 1998
Soeharto asked students to stop their protests and to return to campus after weeks of widespread student protests demanding political reforms.
April 18, 1998
Defense and Security Minister/Armed Forces Chief Gen Wiranto and 14 Development Cabinet VII ministers held dialogs with students at the Jakarta Fair Grounds despite opposition from the vast majority of students.
May 1, 1998
