The government had launched a massive manhunt for Alfredo Reinado, formerly of the military police, when he escaped from jail in August 2006. President Jose Ramos-Horta called off the search in June in a bid to start a dialogue.
"I will give Alfredo and Salsinha (one of Alfredo`s key deputies) one last chance to come, and if they don`t, that would mean that they are not contributing anything and do not want to settle this problem," Gusmao said.
The pair did not use a last chance to meet offered by the government, Gusmao said, noting now "there will be no other way," though he did not elaborate.
