Lebak (ANTARA News) - Former President Abdurahman Wahid, intimately
addressed to as Gus Dur, refused to run for the presidential post in
the 2009 elections, apparently due to the disappointment by his forced
resignation.

He made the remark to thousands of his National Awakening Party cadres
in the party`s regional consensus meeting in Rangkasbitung, Lebak
district, on Thursday.

According to him, many have urged him to run for the presidential post
in the upcoming general elections, but he continued rejecting the
strong appeals.

His refusal was also on account of his rather unfavorable state of health.

It is for these reasons that he never had an intention to seek a
presidential nomination. "It`s much better to promote PKB`s
participation, as many of its supporters are of grassroots level," he
said.(*) END
