As you all know, Hillary’s campaign headquarters was the scene of a hostage situation yesterday.
It turns out the guy who took the hostages has done time in jail and
was due in court yesterday but he decided he had better things to do.
The important thing to remember from all of this though is not that the
two hostages helped diffuse the situation or that the guy is just a nut
who wanted some face time on CNN (he called them up during the
standoff). No, that isn’t what’s important, what is important is that Hillary showed that she can deal with a “crisis.”
When the hostages had been released and their alleged
captor arrested, a regal-looking Hillary Rodham Clinton strolled out of
her Washington home, the picture of calm in the face of crisis.The image, broadcast just as the network news began, conveyed the
message a thousand town hall meetings and campaign commercials strive
for—namely, that the Democratic presidential contender can face
disorder in a most orderly manner.
Just like JFK and the Cuban missile crises!
Why don’t we just cut all the hogwash out and call a spade a spade here; the media wants
Hillary Rodham Clinton to be the next President of the United States.
Hillary had nothing to do with the peaceful resolution of this
situation; she wasn’t even in the state! But that doesn’t matter
because the media sees her as some idealized Churchillian figure that
can stare down the barrel of a shotgun (OK, the hostage taker only had
flares, but a shotgun sounds more leader-like) and she doesn’t flinch,
she doesn’t run, she stands tough.
She was responsible for making this guy surrender according to the
media. If it wasn’t for her cool and calm demeanor who knows what this
guy would have done. He might have even photocopied his naked butt on
one of the campaign photocopiers! The horror! But nothing bad ended up
happening because our future president won’t back down to anyone,
especially if they’re drunk and states away.
Why don’t we reminisce a bit about the media’s reaction to our
current president’s reaction to a real crisis; 9-11. He was portrayed
as a hapless twit who didn’t know what to do because Daddy and Cheney
weren’t there to pull their puppet’s strings. Bush was demonized
because he didn’t knock down some grade schoolers on his way to save
the world. Instead of going nuts he really did stay cool, calm, and
collected.
This is just how the media operates. They’ll give their hand picked
president favorable press for diffusing a crises she had no hand in
diffusing and they’ll bash President Bush for reacting quite well to
the single worse attack on American soil.
All I’ve got to say is that I’m glad that the media has a lower
approval rating then Congress (and that’s pretty low). Everyone knows
that they are nothing more then glorified tabloid reporters with
dwindling ratings. BigT
