Indonesian foreign minister leads UNSC session

Minister Hassan who represented Indonesia as UNSC president this month read out the presidential statement which stressed that the task of the UNSC was to preserve global peace and security.

He said the council recognized the regional organizations` significant role in the prevention, management and settlement of conflicts in certain parts of the world.

"The UNSC recognizes that regional and sub-regional organizations` roles have been on the right tract to find the cause of various conflicts and other security challenges existing in their own regions and to try to prevent or settle the problems based on their knowledge of the areas," he said.

The council also reiterated its determination to make every effort to establish close cooperation between the UN and the regional and sub regional organizations in maintaining global peace and security, he said.
