The Indonesian people from Aceh`s town of Sabang in the eastern tip of the country to Papua`s Merauke district in the western tip are mourning over the death of former president Soeharto.
The former Indonesian second president died of multiple organ failure on Sunday (January 27) at 1:10 p.m after undergoing intensive medical treatment at Pertamina Hospital in South Jakarta since January 4, 2008.
The former Indonesian strongman who was born in Kemusuk village, Yogyakarta, on June 8, 1921, was admitted to the hospital for anemia and severe edema.
The Indonesian national Red and White Flag is hoisted half mast as of Sunday (January 27) at the Presidential Palace to respect late former president Soeharto. Earlier in the day, Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi announced seven national mourning days to respect the late Soeharto.
Indonesian people across the country were expected to observe seven days of mourning starting on Sunday (Jan 27).
Prominent figures in West Java called on the people in the province to raise the Indonesian flag half mast to respect the former head of state.
