Lessons From Nandigram Violence !
Whatever happened in Nandigram is deplorable and ought to be condemned by all the civilized people of this country. But the detailed reports of the gory event is still awaited and one must not draw any premature inference from that unfortunate incident.Buddhdev Bhattacharhee is a lonely man these days and it seems his own people have deserted him.Fellow comrades are annoyed primarily to the unraveling of the very well structured, clandestine election strategy which till now eluded the outside world.Other parties appoint poll agents and election functionaries at the time of election but in rural west Bengal they are on party pay roll- always.Communist Parties know well in advance the measures needed to be taken to embrace back into its fold who are beginning to get disillusioned with its policy and practices.
Buddhdev Bhattacharjee knew that though there is superficial reporting from the channels like NDTV for now but some professional News Channel is bound to venture into the countryside sooner or latter and all these carefully crafted stories about the grand turnaround of the rural landscape as a consequence of land reform is bound to be busted.Perhaps there was regret too that despite chanting lofty ideals and hollow promises the state is more or less similar to Bihar in every respect. After all they formed a single state not very long ago.Bihar slipped a bit because of the annual flood from Nepal and the complete apathy shown by central leadership.Despite thriving on the raw materiel from Bihar, centre never compensated the state adequately.Same is the case today as apart from politicking neither Manmohan Singh nor Sonia Gandhi have even spoken sympathetically to the hundreds and thousands of flood affected victims.Bangladesh Government on the other hand is proactive and have taken several laudable measures to rehabilitate its affected people. The fear of inviting Lalu wrath might have prevented Sonia and Manohan to speak even on humanitarian issue but that shows how callous our leaders are about the people of this country and how far sighted they are that they do not want to see anything which is not politically value addition for them.
Buddhdev Bhattacharjee might have realised the potential danger and started initiative to ameliorate the poverty in real term.Land holding in India is so fragmented that it can not go beyond subsistence farming so he opened the state for private investments despite heavy opposition from his fellow comrades. This set the alarm bell ringing and he failed to change the mind set of fellow comrades, who pretended to be keeping low until the ghastly incident of Nandigramm happened.
The lesson of Nandigramm must not be forgotten but at the same time the Industrialisation drive must be accelerated because it is the only way to extricate Crores of people caught in the not-very rewarding agriculture sector.Mamta Bannrjee and her associates too should realise that if the state miss the bus then it would be left behind to give company to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. So,the prudent strategy for her also is to take care that her politics do not harm the economic prospects of the state otherwise she too would be held responsible for obstructing the forward march of the state.Every high is followed by low phase so Buddhdev Bhattacharjee need not loose his sleep and keep trying honestly to make the West Bengal a model of development.History will recognise, reward and compensate his brevity. Is he singing..ekla chalo re....?

Could you give us more background on what you're writing about? And also, this needs to be filed under "Opinons."

Thanks for the reference, Ryan, although--shouldn't a story itself contain enough info so that the reader knows what it's about? Just a one-sentence synopsis. Also fine to include reference links. Just trying to help a contributor reach more readers with greater understanding of the issue at hand.
