Mily chief nominee undergoes fit and proper test

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Army Chief of Staff Gen Djoko Santoso who has
been nominated for the post of Indonesian military chief underwent a
fit and proper test at the parliament building here on Wednesday
morning.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono proposed Djoko Santoso as a sole
candidate for the post through a presidential letter submitted to the
House of Representatives (DPR) on Nov 28.

Djoko Santoso who spent much of his time on intelligence services first
came to prominence as commander of the Pattimura Regional Military
Command and chief of the Security Restoration Operation Command in
Maluku between 2002 and 2003.

Born in Solo, Central Java, on Sept 8, 1952, Djoko Santoso was
assistant to the Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief of Territorial Staff
for Socio-Political Affairs in 1998 and Chief of Staff of the
Diponegoro Regional Military Command in 2000. He was later appointed
chief of the second division of the Army`s Strategic Reserve Command
