Newsweek: Men Smarter Than Women
Of course this begs the question are Politicians smarter than the average Evangelist? Both spout the same tripe, but who has the largest number of followers who swallow it hook, line, and sinker?
Of course Men do have two Brains, one large, one much smaller, the smaller one always overrules the larger brain.
Only women know when the smaller Brain in a man is engaged, if the man is single the smaller brain is always on, though this is always quite oblivious to men. When married it is on 50/50, unless the man becomes a parent to a teen daughter, then the larger brain conviententy takes over warning the Daughter of the scientific fact that men especially Teen boys have two brains. The daughter must always stay away from Teen Boys whose upper brain is under construction until they reach retirement age.
The photo pretty much explains everything, there is a reason why they call Men and their Toys.
Are men smarter than women? No. But they sure think they are. An analysis of some 30 studies by British researcher Adrian Furnham, a professor of psychology at University College London, shows that men and women are fairly equal overall in terms of IQ. But women, it seems, underestimate their own candlepower (and that of women in general), while men overestimate theirs. Furnham talks to NEWSWEEK's Joan Raymond about his findings and why perceived IQ matters. Excerpts:
NEWSWEEK: Many studies show that men score slightly higher in IQ tests. Is this significant?
Adrian Furnham: Universally, men tend to score higher on certain specialized skills, such as spatial awareness. In the real world, that means they might be better at reading maps or navigating. Women score higher in terms of language development and emotional intelligence. But most experts agree there is no real, important overall difference when it comes to gender and intelligence.
But women think they aren't as smart as men?
That's the conundrum. What I study is "perceived intelligence," essentially how smart people think they are. I analyzed 30 international studies, and what I found was that women, across the world, tend to underplay their intelligence, while men overstate it.
So do most men think they're Albert Einstein?
There certainly is a greater male ego. It's what we call the male hubris and female humility effect. Men are more confident about their IQ. These studies show that on average, women underestimate their IQ scores by about five points while men overestimate their own IQs. Since these studies were international in scope, the results were essentially the same whether women were from Argentina, America, Britain, Japan or Zimbabwe. Another factor affecting perception may be distribution of IQ ... Although [men and women] are on average the same, the people at the very top and the very bottom of the IQ bell curve are more likely to be men. That is a pattern that we see in the university setting, with men either being at the very top of the class or at the bottom.
Do women tend to think that men are smarter than they are?
Surprisingly, [both] men and women perceive men being smarter across generations. Both sexes believe that their fathers are smarter than their mothers and grandfathers are more intelligent than their grandmothers.
What about the kids?
If there are children, [both] men and women think their sons are brighter than their daughters.

Barry Artiste, I don't want to comment here as I might look stupid. I know what I know and I don't know what I don't know. My father thought he was wrong, but he was mistaken.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. I would like to see more of this. Specifically, as this story illuminates, how we women ALLOW men to believe they are smarter...
Oh, I'm sorry, did I say that outloud....

HAHAHA, Yes you may have said it out loud, Number #1 Women do hold all the power, whether men or women believe it or not. Only second to Red Shiny Sports Cars, Big Screen TV's, T&A or even a Plate of Chicken Wings which also hold power over men's minds and rationale. Actually, when you come to think of it, We men are getting lower and lower on the food chain. Men being visual animals will never be able to compete against Women who are thinking Animals. Especially when Women come in such nice packages. For men that is like having every day as Christmas. That's my take on it anyway. No Man ever started a War over "Barry of Troy" or would think of hosting a Mr. America Beauty Pagent.

Interesting story. I think a lot of gender differences are socialized and not necessarily hard-wired. Having differing ratios of hormones and different bodies play a big role in how men and women experience life, obviously, but many of the gender traits we take for granted are learned. For example, I'm a much better shopper than my girlfriend, which I learned from my sisters and mom.
Seedplanter, maybe that attitude is why they're EX-wives.

One thing for sure, I am a better cook than any woman I went out with, of course that could be plot on their part so I would do all the cooking, somehow I think I screwed myself on that one. As for shopping, I know very few women who love to shop, perhaps its the crowds more so than the adventure. I have 4 sisters and 3 brothers, my sisters love shopping, hate cooking and reallty hate doing the dishes and housework. Where as Mom loved to cook and bake, and my brothers and I love to eat. So it was an equality of sorts, my sisters did the housework and we did the dishes.

I think I am smarter than most men I meet, but I do think that our society likes to pretend that men are smarter. Guys get pretty angry if we say they are not the best at everything. Honestly if you are a smart woman you know what it is like to try and have an articulate argument with a man...it's like talking to a brick. It can be especially trying when his emotions get in the way of logic.
