I guess allegedly offering money or services in exchange for dropping out of the race isn't just immoral, it's illegal to boot! If this is true, you've got to feel bad for the guy who turned down the offer, losing to an influence peddler.

Mayor Larry O'Brien has been charged as a result of an eight-month investigation by OPP into allegations he offered Terry Kilrea incentives to dropout of the 2006 municipal race for mayor.

"This is a very complex investigation," said Ontario Provincial Police Supt Dave Truax, director of the anti-rackets squad.

O'Brien, who is charged with two counts under the Criminal Code, has been accused of offering Kilrea a position on the National Parole Board plus $30,000 to cover his campaign expenses if he dropped out of the race.
