Palestine: a political fabrication?

That this was a political confection was, perhaps inadvertently, revealed to the West by Zahir Muhse’in, a member of the PLO Executive Committee, in a 1977 interview with the Amsterdam-based newspaper Trouw:

“The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct “Palestinian people” to oppose Zionism. [Emphasis added.]

Arafat himself asserted the same principle on many occasions. In his authorized biography he says, “The Palestinian people have no national identity. I, Yasir Arafat, man of destiny, will give them that identity through conflict with Israel.”

But even these admissions—that the concept of a “Palestinian people” and a “Palestinian homeland” were invented for political purposes to justify and legitimize terrorism and genocide—could not stem the enthusiasm of western leaders.

What's your point here?  Do you agree with the original blogpost's arguments/opinions?

National identities are forged through shared histories, stories, that are sometimes closer to fiction than to facts...Nationalism is more a construct than anything else. Does that make it any less valid?  Are there circumstances when it is invalid?

This is an excerpt from this new book.

IMO when history is fabricated and our 'modern media' goes along with it, truth flies out the window.

Just because someone says the same thing over and over, does not make it true or truth.

In the words of the PLO official and of Arafat: “The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian
state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of
Israel..."

The reason for the conflict between Israel and 'Palestinians'. I guess you could call the "palestinians", the Islamic stalking horse, and their excuse for violence and terror.

René, great points, all. The alleged "Palestinian" cause is as you stated--the attempted destruction of Israel. Beyond that--the Palestinian Liberation Organization aka "P.L.O." later known to be the P.A. has failed their own people miserably. Let alone that they do so under false political pretensions other than Genocide.

As this is obviously a potentially inflammatory issue, I would caution NowPublic users to bear in mind that issues of nationhood, nationality and identity are delicate ones and we should all exercise patience and understanding when discussing them. This thread will be monitored.
