President Bush was in Las Vegas Thursday as part of his West Coast road trip to raise money for Republican candidates. Air Force One arrived in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.
Bush delivered a speech to the Nevada Policy Research Institute on the war on terror. The speech highlighted themes he discussed in Monday's State of the Union address.
The president is also urging Congress to make permanent a law that has given the government more freedom to eavesdrop on suspected terrorists. He says a grave intelligence gap would reopen if the law is allowed to lapse.
The President will also stops in Colorado and Missouri before returning to Washington, D.C.. Despite public approval ratings near the lowest of his presidency, Bush remains a popular draw for his party. The White House says the trip is expected to raise more than $4.5 million.
