President proposes Joko Santoso as new military chief

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in a letter to the House of Representatives (DPR) has proposed General Joko Santoso as the next Indonesian Military (TNI) chief to succeed Marshal Joko Suyanto.

"Herewith I ask for the approval of the Parliament concerning our plan to appoint General Joko Santoso as new TNI Chief to succeed Marshal Joko Suyanto who has been in office for one year and nine months and will enter retirement period on January 1, 2008," DPR Secretary General Faisal Jamal said when reading out President Yudhoyono`s letter at a DPR plenary session here on Tuesday.
